What Are The Different Types Of Steel Pipe Coating?

steels

Steel is one of the metals known for its high strength and durability that can last long. Many homeowners and industries use these pipelines for water transmission. These pipes transmit portable water, petrochemical refineries, irrigation, plumbing, and many more. So, they are subjected to wear and tear because of external factors, damage, and cracks. Thus, many steel suppliers in Chennai protect pipelines with steel pipe coating to prevent corrosion. However, steel pipes can sustain more than 100 years but need consistent monitoring and maintenance. Nowadays, industries use techniques, namely, pipelining and pipe coating. These techniques prevent direct contact between the pipe and the fluid passing through it. These techniques involve galvanizing, polyethylene coating, high-performance powder coating, and many more. Hence, in this post, listed below are the different types of a steel pipe coating to improve the performance of pipelines.

High-performance powder coating (HPPC):

The foremost technique involved in the steel pipe coating is high-performance powder coating (HPPC). The high-performance powder coating consists of polymer resins and colorants, leveling agents, and many more. These coatings are used even in the SAIL TMT bar to protect them from extreme weather conditions. Thus, the HPPC coated pipelines are used in the oil and gas pipelines and metal refineries. The HPPC coating contains polyethylene which protects the pipelines during underground use and transport. Polyethylene helps maintain the pipe’s quality even after being exposed to soils and chemicals. The HPPC coating is suitable for pipes of a diameter of a minimum of 14 inches and a maximum of 42 inches. This coating allows the pipes to withstand temperatures of -45 degrees celsius to 85 degrees celsius.

High-density two-layer polyethylene coating:

Another commonly used coating for the pipe is high-density two-layer polyethylene coating. This coating is used as a topcoat for multi-layered coating systems. The high-density two-layer polyethylene coating is applied as the additional layer over other coatings so that it can be used in extreme weather environments like water transportation, petrochemical factories, and many more. The two-layer polyethylene coating consists of adhesive that is resistant to corrosion, shears, cathodic disbondment, and many more.

Fusion bonded epoxy powder coating (FBE):

Thirdly, the fusion bonded epoxy powder coating or FEB coatings are used for pipes with a small diameter. The FEB coatings are more durable and resistant to heat and pressure. The FBE coatings prevent pipelines from corrosion and minimize the damages significantly.

Thus, these are commonly used coating for pipelines and transmission lines. Therefore, purchase of steel products and MS chequered plate from the steel dealers in Chennai for long-lasting and well-coated pipes for industries and homes.
